One spider may simply have entered through a door or window. Webs that return after cleaning, repeated sightings in the same rooms or visible egg sacs point to more persistent activity. Location, frequency and behaviour tell us more than one uncomfortable encounter.
Spiders feed on insects, so recurring activity may be connected to building gaps, quiet hiding places or another insect problem. Alexandre assesses the situation before deciding whether a spray treatment is appropriate and which areas should be treated.
Observe the activity
Not all spiders behave the same way. Health Canada explains that some build webs while others, including wolf spiders, actively hunt their prey.
Activity is often easier to track when webs return to the same places. Quiet corners, basements, closets, garages and areas where insects are being caught can remain favourable until the underlying conditions change.
Some spiders hunt instead of waiting in a web. They may be seen on floors or walls, beside a doorway or inside a box. Their movement can be seasonal or follow the insects they eat.
Access, shelter and food
Spiders can use the same openings as the insects they hunt: damaged screens, gaps beneath doors, cracks and spaces around utility lines. Once inside, they settle in quiet areas that provide shelter and prey.
Exterior lighting that draws insects to a door or window can also concentrate spider activity. Lasting reduction therefore means looking beyond the visible spiders and addressing access points and favourable conditions wherever practical.
A case-specific intervention
Spray treatment is not one identical package for every property: the target areas, product, preparation, precautions and follow-up depend on the activity found and the selected product label.
Alexandre asks where the spiders or webs appear, how long the activity has been present, how often it occurs and whether it is indoors, outdoors or both. A photo taken without handling the spider can help.
The assessment considers webs, egg sacs, hiding places, building openings and signs of other insects. The goal is to understand what is supporting the activity.
When the inspection supports it, Alexandre uses a pest-control product registered by Health Canada according to its label. Treatment surfaces and areas are selected for the situation rather than promised in advance.

After the intervention, note new spiders and webs that return. The need, timing and scope of any follow-up are determined case by case.
Before the inspection
Take a photo of the spider, web or egg sac from a stable position, then note the room, time and frequency of the sightings. A blurry photo may not support species identification, but the location and behaviour are still useful.
Avoid applying several household products before the inspection. Tell Alexandre what has already been used and keep children and pets away from any spider you do not recognize. If a bite is suspected or symptoms develop, contact a health professional or poison control rather than relying on a diagnosis from the skin mark alone.
Practical prevention
Health Canada recommends repairing screens, weather-stripping or caulking doors and windows, vacuuming corners and removing webs when the spider is not in them. Keeping clothing, blankets and boxes off the floor also reduces hiding places.
Outdoors, yellow light bulbs generally attract fewer insects near the house. These measures can support an intervention, but they do not replace an assessment when substantial activity returns across several areas.
After spray treatment
Do not assume that one universal re-entry time or cleaning method applies. The product registration, label and application determine the precautions that must be followed.
Before washing a treated surface, ask Alexandre what should remain undisturbed and for how long. Record any new sightings and their location so he can decide whether follow-up is appropriate.
Spider questions
No. A spider may enter accidentally or follow its prey indoors. Webs that return, repeated sightings in the same areas, egg sacs or activity across the building are more meaningful. Alexandre assesses the full pattern before recommending treatment.
These spaces often provide quiet corners, boxes, cracks, humidity and the insects spiders eat. Cellar spiders, for example, build webs in cool or damp corners. Reducing prey, hiding places and access points helps limit recurring activity.
Health Canada says most spiders are shy, avoid people and rarely bite. Black widow spiders occur in Canada but are uncommon. Do not handle an unknown spider with bare hands; if a concerning bite or symptoms occur, promptly contact a health professional or poison control.
A skin mark alone does not confirm that a spider caused it or identify a species. A clear photo of the spider, or a specimen that has already been captured safely, can be more useful for identification. Seek medical advice for symptoms.
